Why?

PE offers a broad array of tools supporting personal and professional educational development. Learning about various resources and practices in PE connects us with specific tools and strategies to support our passion for growth and development whether it be with students in the classroom, with faculty and other stakeholders we support, with our own career, or broadly within our own life as we actively pursue our ideal selves. This session provides a model you can use to see how PE tools and content align with the big picture of PE. More importantly, this session will help you plan to actively pursue use of PE resources to support your own goals for growth and development.

Before the Session

  1. Please review the PE in a Nutshell model and the PE in a Nutshell slides (15 min)
  2. Individual Activity: please respond to these exploration questions on the appropriate topic of the workshop forum (5 min)
    1. What are the key components of the PE in a Nutshell model?
    2. What parts of PE in a Nutshell model most closely align with your work or interests? Why?
    3. In what ways does the PE in a Nutshell model help frame two or three areas of development you are interested in pursuing?

Session Plan

  1. Orientation to session and review of pre-session exploration question results
  2. Brief Q&A – walk through each part of the PE in a Nutshell model – two slides for each part
  3. Group Activity – analyze these PE in a Nutshell Model critical thinking questions (CTQs) on the appropriate topic of the workshop forum
    1. What kinds of tools are available for PE practitioners in support of growth and development?
    2. In what ways are the different elements of the model synergistic with each other?
    3. What aspects of the PE in a Nutshell model apply best across different contexts and stakeholders (students, colleagues, ourselves, our family, a club, etc)? Why?
  4.  PE Conference Proposal Support: Q&A with conference organizers
  5. Final Individual Reflection What personal meaning have you generated from this session that enriches, enhances, or connects to the passion you personally carry into your work and/or your life?
