We will use the results to determine the logistical details that will best fit our members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Value<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over $500 for similar workshops offered through the Team-Based Learning Collaborative (TBLC).&nbsp; Offered collegially to the PE community for the cost of the certificate itself ($25).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>W<em>hy TBL?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TBL outlines a structured method to active learning and a flipped classroom, compatible will large and small classes with only one facilitator.&nbsp; The method offers insights into teaming, pre-class preparation, in-class readiness testing, and team applications that elevate questions to problem-solving and deepening discussions.&nbsp; It has been shown to increase attendance, improve daily preparation, drive critical thinking, and exercise teamwork and communication skills.&nbsp; Process education and team-based learning are synergistic approaches to elevating teaching and learning.&nbsp; Process educators apply many of these educational elements already, and TBL educators in the know elevate their teaching through PE. Enhancing our knowledge about the specifics of Team-Based Learning pedagogy is, therefore, valuable for any process educator. The Academy Board is supporting an opportunity to earn a certificate from the Team-Based Learning Collaborative.&nbsp; An article diving deeper into this synergy between PE and TBL is pending publication in the next IJPE (Hu and Ofstad, 2024).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>About the facilitator<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Will Ofstad is a long-time member of the Academy and current Member-at-Large.&nbsp; He is also the current President of the Team-Based Learning Collaborative and a certified TBL Trainer-Consultant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>About the workshops and certification<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The five workshops and their learning objectives are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Fundamental Principles and Practices of TBL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Describe the essential elements of TBL<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explain clearly and concisely how and why TBL works<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evaluate the benefits of using TBL<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Evaluating Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) for Readiness Assurance Tests (RATs) and Application Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Compare and contrast MCQs for RATs, exams and applications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Link MCQs to session learning outcomes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify common errors and barriers to writing effective MCQ questions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Peer Evaluation and Team Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\".indent40{ \tpadding-left: 40px; \/*indents the whole list an additional 40px from default *\/ \tlist-style-type:circle;  \/* changes the default bullet to a circle *\/ }\">Identify characteristics of high and low performing teams<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Compare and contrast systems and strategies for facilitating team growth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply strategies to empower teams to self-manage performance through peer feedback and evaluation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\".indent40{padding-left: 40px;}\">Identify common errors and barriers to successful teamwork and peer evaluation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Improving Facilitation Skills for TBL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Justify the importance of learner motivation, participation and a positive learning environment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Compare and contrast facilitation roles and methods<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analyze the key characteristics of effective facilitators<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify common errors and barriers to successful TBL facilitation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Creating an Effective TBL Module<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Apply backward design methodology to plan a TBL module<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Construct application exercises that adhere to the 4S framework<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Design readiness materials that motivate self-directed learning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Convert non-TBL course material into TBL format<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify common errors and barriers during TBL module development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each workshop is requires about 2 hours of pre-workshop preparation and 2 hours synchronous attendance.&nbsp;
