Seeking Innovative Conference Session Submissions

The 2019 PE Conference in Mobile, Alabama is less than six months away (June 24-26). Conference Proposals addressing the theme of "Reaching All Learners: Universal Design and Engagement" are rolling in and are receiving peer-review. We still have room for some more workshop, paper, symposia, and Hall of Innovation poster submissions. Therefore, the window for submitting a proposal that will be peer-reviewed is extended to February 8th. There are opportunities for doing live sessions as well as online sessions from a distance. Don't let inability to travel stop you from participating in this signature professional development experience.  Submit your proposal via the 'presenters tab' located at
www.processeducation.org/peconf

Greater Clarity Brought to Academy Officer and Director Roles
by Tris Utschig

At the annual winter meeting, approximately eighteen Academy members took advantage of our collective experience in driving organizations forward to create a set of performance criteria for each of our nearly twenty elected officer and appointed director roles within the Academy. We used an updated version of the Methdology for Writing Performance Criteria for Individuals and Teams to draft each set of performance criteria. As part of this process, for each Academy role a table of four key areas of quality for performing that role effectively was generated. In the table, several attributes describing what each area of quality looks like in practice were listed and then used to write one performance criteria statement for each of the four areas of quality.
As an example, here are the performance criteria we generated for my own role (an appointed one) of Assessment Director for the Academy:
Assessment Director

1. Assessor: Embraces opportunities to assess and grow the performance of the Academy while also improving Academy products and processes using clear performance criteria aligned to stakeholder needs.

2. Assessment Facilitator: Initiates, with appropriate stakeholders, diverse assessment activities in a timely manner with effective closure.

3. Systematizer: Designs, organizes, synthesizes, elevates, and communicates assessment processes and results to impact future performance by individuals and teams in the Academy.

4. Mentor: Openly provides assessment of assessments to continuously increase the use and effectiveness of assessment by the Academy and its members.

Please take a moment to look at the Academy officer and director roles here http://www.processeducation.org/moo/moodle/mod/resource/view.php?id=317  Does one or more of these roles describe things you enjoy to do? If so, there are many opportunities to get involved. For example, an email to the current officer or director is always welcome, even if just to introduce yourself.

Self-Growth Community: An Interim Report

During the fall, the self-growth community discovered several things about self-growth, which led to two major papers being developed. Thomas Nelson is producing a paper to (a) share this year’s community experience, (b) help future self-growth communities design and implement more effectively, and (c) present the level of transformation produced in each member of the community. Chaya Jain is going to share a new methodology that was developed: the Methodology for Becoming a Self-Grower. We will be using this methodology during this spring to enhance each person’s performance as a self-grower.

This spring’s self-growth community, which begins in February 2019, consists of 33 participants, with David Leasure as the facilitator. Dan Apple will support a team of 15 mentors in their exploration of self-growth development. Al Rowe will be mentoring the mentors, while they mentor 15 additional members in self-growth. So far, we have identified 13 mentors for the community, and we have room for two more mentors.  To date, we have 5 mentees identified, and we have room for 10 more individuals who want to join our community.  Mentors will be assigned a mentee as their personal life coach in growing self-growth capability. This community will be one of the most exciting projects that the Academy of Process Educators has undertaken.

Please contact David Leasure david@pcrest.com if you are interested in participating in this dynamic self-growth community. This community experience begins in February and will meet the first and third Wednesday of each week at 6 pm eastern. Come join us!

Research continues to grow within the academy. A Research Institute was held Jan 2nd to the 5th at Georgia Gwinnett College with 32 people registered. Each participant identified at least one research project and built out a plan for conducting it. Assessment of the plans played a big part in the Institute and many proposals were sharpened through the actions of the community. The results are under the Research Topic in the membership area of processeducation.org

An open invitation is made to all of you to have a forum created for your research project in the Research topic of processeducation.org. If you would like one, please email David Leasure (david@pcrest.com) and describe your project.

The list of the 39 current PE Academy research projects is also in the Research topic discussion group. Please let the listed project lead know if you're interested in helping with a given project.

The PE Academy Professional Development Workshops series continues to be considered a valuable experience for Academy members.  Available the second Tuesday of each month this series provides Professional Development for serious faculty focused on student self-growth and success.

This series of synchronous 90 minute online workshops use Process Education principles to share ideas for strengthening the practice in our classrooms. The Learning Process Methodology is fully implemented in the workshops; as participants experience pre-workshop reading and reflection, in-workshop presentation followed by group reflection and assessment of the ideas generated and shared. Similar to our work with students, the workshop participants are actively engaged in their learning and challenged to push their knowledge to new levels. Post-workshop assessments show that those participating are growing and learning each time they chose to attend. The workshop are free to PE Academy members and their guests.
