A Few Words from Our Servant Leader
Academy President
Joann Horton

The Academy of Process Educators is changing as it creates its long-term vision and develops its strategic plan for 2020-2025. This transformational change process will be ongoing and build on the unique strengths and values of the Academy. Our success depends upon the active support of the members as agents of change. A lot of people have worked diligently over the past decade to solidify the Academy's direction as a not for profit organization. Over the past year, the Academy expanded its appointed positions to support its growth over the next decade. We are at a pivotal point. Let's follow the advice of American architect Daniel Burnham who said,

"Make big plans; aim high in hope and work,
remembering that a noble, logical diagram
once recorded will never die."

Join us on this exciting journey as we build on the Academy's culture and deliberately design its future as a leader in the transformation of learning, growth, and self-growth. I am pleased to walk with you on this transformational journey.

Process Education Stories
DDO Director
Wendy Duncan

Fellow Process Educators:

For decades, we have tried to bring people into process education with their heads. It's a hard sell. Now it's time to attempt to grab their HEARTS. We need stories. They could be YOUR stories or stories of your students. The audience is parents.

These stories must meet some of the following criteria

•    a strong why
•    vivid plot (what was ... what happened ... what is now)
•    an exciting climax
•    surprise
•    passionate, emotional language
•    clear and simple
•    engages the audience
•    big change in performance or attitude
•    conflict

Do you have such stories? Of course you have! You are a committed process educator and you’ve seen the transformations yourselves.
Please take a few minutes to share your BEST story with us.

Share YOUR story!

The 2019 PE Conference / CoTL was a great experience for all who attended. Thankfully, the Innovation in Learning Center at USA was kind enough to share their photos documenting all the sharing, learning, and growth that took place. So take a moment to peruse the images and reflect on your time in Mobile (if you attended) or see what all the fuss is about (if you could not). We can't wait to make some more conference memories next year

The Academy Gets Social
Marketing Chair
Thomas Nelson

Dear Process Educators,

It has been an exciting summer! I enjoyed meeting and catching up with many of you at the meeting we hosted at the University of South Alabama. I had some fun, learned a lot, and I hope you did too. As part of all the fun and learning, we decided that the Academy of Process Education was going to become a Deliberately Developmental Organization. That is a very exciting development, and one which will require a bit of effort on our (the members) parts. But the results could be extraordinary if we all get together.

To make getting together easier I’ve harmonized the social media accounts. Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are all now the same name: AcOfProcEd. This was the easiest name that was available on all three platforms. You can go directly to each of them at the following addresses without having to log in here:

www.facebook.com/AcOfProcEd
www.twitter.com/AcOfProcEd
www.Instagram.com/AcOfProcEd

Easier still, if you use any of those social media platforms you can just like and follow the accounts. Then you’ll be able to keep in touch with all your friends and contacts who practice PE around the world. If you see yourself or someone you know in a picture, tag it! (Don’t tag people without their permission though.) Share things related to PE on the platform or platforms of your choice. Share interesting content with your friends outside the PE world and show them what we’re all about. There will be some content on all three sites Monday through Friday. And you are free to add your own content as well as comment on what’s already there. (If you can’t add something and want to share it, send it to me at thomasnelson@southalabama.edu and I’ll try to post it for you.)

Where possible I will post the same content to all three places. This is not always possible. Instagram must have an image, Twitter has a length limit. With your help we can build an expanding community of Process Educators online!

Did you know that the minutes of the Academy Board Meetings are available to ALL Academy members? In this article, we offer highlights of the most recent board meeting(s):

Academy Goals and Strategic Project for 2019-2020

Academy President, Joann Horton, stated that she has identified four key goals to guide the work of the Academy during the next year. These goals support our vision of the Academy of Process Educators where the membership embodies the Process Education philosophy. The four key goals are:

-To become a Deliberately Developmental Organization
-To increase Membership
-To strengthen self-growth of membership
-To develop leadership capacity of membership [initiatives to projects]

In addition, the completion of the Academy Strategic Five- Year Plan is a major project.

Levels of Academy Membership for Service Recognition

Academy Ambassador, Wade Ellis, submitted a proposal for Levels of Academy Membership and began initial discussions. The purpose of the proposal is to develop reward/recognition system for active Academy members. (The proposal outlining the award system has been posted on the website with the July 2019 minutes.) The basic idea is to recognize performance/commitment to the Academy through a series of badges and levels. This would be one method of easily communicating professional service to department chairs. Members may post their views on the website. The discussion will continue.

New Academy Roles

We're growing! We have several brand new board positions that were filled during or immediately after this year's conference. We'd like to welcome the following roles and individuals aboard:

We have several readings on DDOs that are now part of the Academy Bookshelf and are happy to offer them to all Academy members:

Annual Assessment Report (2018-2019)
Prepared by
Past President
Matthew Watts
Contributors:
Dan Apple, Wade Ellis, Cynthia Woodbridge, Ingrid Ulbrich

Last year we developed the Academy of Process Educator’s first Annual Assessment Report. This document summarized the growth of the organization and was used to formulate the Operational Plan. This document is the assessment of the year that began after the summer conference of 2018 and ended at the summer conference of 2019.

The Annual Assessment Report will again document the accomplishments and potential of the Academy, but also demonstrate the improvement in the process itself. While this report is the work of but a few people, the Academy consists of numerous hard-working volunteers, coming together with a growth mindset to improve the lives of everyone around them.
