Instructions for: Paper Dialogues

Process Education Conference paper dialogues contain some traditional elements of conference presentations but also utilize the concept of process education to enhance the experience for both the presenter and audience.

  • Paper Guidelines

    • Clarify and organize your work and ideas to ensure they fit into the context of Process Education. See explanation of Process Education HERE

    • Write your paper using the template HERE

  • Presentation Planning

    • Write out 1-3 audience outcomes (things will know or be able to do) during your presentation.

    • Produce a basic facilitation plan for your paper dialogue in the time allotted.  See guidelines below. 

  • Dialogue Guidelines

    • Traditional elements

      • Come early to your session to check AV equipment, introduce yourself to session the session moderator or few audience members, etc.

      • Provide the audience with an enlightening background summary that places the paper in context and clearly articulates your intended outcomes.

      • Discuss additional details which clarify and expand on complex, controversial, or key content of the paper.  Please do not read or reproduce parts of the paper for your audience.

    • Process Elements

      • Expect that your audience has already read the paper.

      • Provide one or more reflective opportunities for audience think in terms of how they are personally achieving the outcomes articulated earlier.

      • Plan for active learning that provides feedback for you and your audience.  You can do this by preparing a set of questions and/or an activity for your audience that will do one or more of the following:

        • Invite fruitful discussion regarding certain elements of your paper

        • Give constructive feedback for you about your work

        • Offer insights to help you plan future work in the area.
