What engaged or excited you most about learning when YOU were a student?

I vividly remember 5th and 6th grade. In 6th grade, every week we got about 5 pages of text with no punctuation/capitalization and we were supposed to annotate appropriately. Instead of collecting and grading, Mrs. Clark read us these stories from her childhood while giving the correct punctuation and capitalization. Fifth grade with Mrs. Paauw was a year of global experiences. The end of our unit on China culminated in a field trip to a local Chinese restaurant where we were expected to order in Chinese, eat with chopsticks, and converse with the owner. Both these women made learning fun.
