Process Educators

... trust and respect students and are willing to shift control of their learning to them. These educators want to see growth in others and strive to foster their own self-growth. They can handle change and are willing to innovate and experiment. Because assessment is the best way to improve performance, they enjoy it, seek it, and practice it.

Workshops

The PE Academy Professional Development Workshops continue to be met with open arms by Academy members. These synchronous 90 minute online workshops use Process Education principles to share ideas for strengthening practice in our classrooms and beyond.

The Learning Process Methodology is fully implemented in the workshops. Participants experience pre-workshop reading and reflection, in-workshop presentation followed by team activities and reflection, and assessment of the ideas generated and shared. Similar to our work with students, workshop participants are actively engaged in their learning and are challenged to push their knowledge to new levels.

Post-workshop assessments show that those participating are growing and learning each time they choose to attend. The workshops are free to PE Academy members and their guests. PE Academy Workshops held thus far have included a wide variety of engaging topics ranging from simple process-based classroom activities, to instructor reflection and assessment of course implementation, to individual and organizational development.

Contact Tris Utschig with any questions about a workshop.

Contact Knut Are Romann-Aas with any issues you may have in completing your registration in the system and enrollment for the workshop.

Mentoring Skills Performance Measure Development Workshop (October 29, 2024)
Meaningful learning and fellowship always occur during these sessions. If you are like me, you value increasing your mentoring capability. If so, you will find significant personal value in participating in this workshop where you will help develop measures for these mentoring skills: Being Courageous, Being Fair, Being Independent, Identifying New Qualities, Maintaining Objectivity, and Validating Added Value.

Professional Development Book Chat: The Genius in All of Us (October 9, 2024)
This book is a good companion to what we study in Process Education because it gives examples of people who are at the top of their areas of expertise and how they got there… not everyone who has a high IQ ends up making a large contribution to society. One needs to constantly apply themselves.

About us

Our Statement and Policy Supporting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: The Academy of Process Educators believes that EVERY person has a right to a safe, healthy community where they can learn and grow without fear of hatred, discrimination, or prejudice. While working tirelessly to support the growth and success of all people, the Academy condemns all acts of bigotry, hatred, violence, and discrimination on any basis. The Academy calls on global citizens to support every person's right to a supportive and safe environment in which they are able to live, grow, and flourish.

Our current membership stands at approximately 275 and includes educators and education professionals around the world (we have members on at least 3 different continents). We have a strong board and are justifiably proud of the dedication and passion for Process Education our members show.

We'd love to have you join us and maybe even consider a leadership role!

Process Education

Process Education integrates many different educational theories, processes, and tools in emphasizing the continuous development of learning skills through the use of assessment principles in order to produce learner self-development.

By providing a logical and methodical approach to improving the processes of educational systems and institutions, Process Education can play a pivotal role in empowering people to create healthier, more adaptive and sustainable lives, communities, and societies. By adopting this powerful philosophy, education can be about empowering each individual to become a self-grower by continually increasing the capacity of each to self-assess and learn. We have a Primer For Process Education; read it as pdf.

25 Years of Process Education is an article in the International Journal of Process Education; read it as pdf or read it as flip-book. We also offer a Graphic Navigator through the major areas of Process Education and a Timeline Navigator through Process Education scholarship.
