2018 Conference Host School: Gannon University

Gannon University is a private, co-educational Catholic university located in Erie, Pennsylvania, offering associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees and certificates. Gannon University has an alumni base numbering around 31,500. Current enrollment is 4,410. U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Colleges 2010" ranked Gannon as a Top Tier Master's University in the northern section of the United States. The university is organized into three main colleges: the College of Engineering and Business, which includes the Dahlkemper School of Business Administration; the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences; and the Morosky College of Health Professions and Sciences.


2018 Conference Location: Erie, Pennsylvania

The city of Erie is the county seat of Erie County, Pennsylvania, United States. Named for the lake and the Native American tribe that resided along its southern shore, Erie is the fourth-largest city in Pennsylvania, as well as the largest city in Northwestern Pennsylvania, with a population of 101,786 at the 2010 census.

Erie is situated between Buffalo, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh, and is on the halfway point between the former two cities. Erie's manufacturing sector remains prominent in the local economy, though health care, higher education, technology, service industries and tourism are emerging as significant economic drivers. Over four million people visit Erie during summer months for recreation at Presque Isle State Park, as well as attractions such as an indoor water park, Waldameer Park, and the casino and horse racetrack named for the state park.

Erie is home to several professional and amateur performing-arts groups. The most significant is the Erie Philharmonic, in continuous existence since 1913.

Erie's location along the shores of Lake Erie provides a plethora of outdoor activities throughout the year. The region's largest attraction is Presque Isle State Park, drawing over four million visitors a year. The region grows grapes and produces the third largest amount of wine in the United States.

Downtown Erie is surrounded by Presque Isle State Park, a National Natural Landmark. The Seaway Trail runs through downtown Erie along the lakefront. The Tom Ridge Environmental Center, at the foot of Presque Isle, features 7,000 square feet (650 m2) of exhibit space.

Other tourist destinations include the Bayfront Convention Center; the Bicentennial Tower that overlooks Lake Erie; Dobbins Landing, a pier in downtown Erie; the Erie Land Light, and the Erie Maritime Museum, the home port of the Niagara. The 2,600,000-square-foot (240,000 m2) Millcreek Mall, one of the largest shopping malls in the United States, is located on Peach Street in nearby Millcreek Township. The indoor waterpark Splash Lagoon, in Summit Township, is the largest indoor waterpark on the East Coast and third largest in the United States. Lodging

The Academy of Process Educators has selected Harborview Apartments, on-campus housing for Gannon Univeristy, as the official lodging for the 2018 PE Conference. Located on campus, Harborview Apartments offer a vast array of amenities. It is a co-ed building with a variety of two to four-person living arrangements. Each apartment includes central air, a dining room, living room, bathroom and bedrooms. It is equipped with a bed, desk and dresser for each resident. Each apartment also has sliding glass doors leading to a small patio for students to enjoy the Gannon campus atmosphere.

Leisure

A couple of group leisure activity are planned, including a tour of one or more local wineries and an Academy dinner and social.

Winery & Farm Tour

Information...The Lake Erie Grape Belt is the largest contiguous grape growing region in North America, with 35,000 acres planted in grapevines. There are more than 30 local wineries and Welch's juice company is celebrating its 150 anniversary in 2019. There will be a visit to at least one winery and a possible tour of a grape farm. Plan on a cost of $10 per person. All transportation will be organized.

 

Academy Social

Information...Join us Friday evening at 6:30 pm for a social gathering at Voodoo Brewery. Voodoo is located in the historic Boston Store building on State Street just a block and a half North of the conference venue - Gannon University’s Center for Business Ingenuity. We will enjoy a selection of appetizers provided by the Academy. Voodoo has a large choice of drinks to purchase. Voodoo is a regional craft brewery noted for some on its very unique beers. These include things like Cowbell, a double chocolate oatmeal milk double stout, and Apis Mead – made with honey. Of course you will also find standard favorites such as pilsner, Hoodoo IPA, and Sparkling Hard cider – just to name a few. There are many more. For those wanting an alternative to beer, wine and barrel aged cocktails are available. Voodoo also offers designer sodas (aka - pop), nitro coffee, and nitro tea. The restaurant has a unique industrial style décor where most of the tables are made from recycled pallets. The floor is polished concrete. They even have an open air beer garden – weather permitting! Come have some great appetizers Friday evening and try some of Voodoo’s drinks. It will be a great time to meet old friends from the Academy and make new ones as well!
